When talking with a potential DJ, consider asking:
What does your wedding planning process look like?
Do you provide ceremony sound and microphones?
What equipment is included?
Do you have backup equipment or an emergency plan?
How early do you arrive for setup?
Do you also serve as the MC?
How do you coordinate with the officiant, venue, and other vendors?
The answers can give you a much better idea of what working with that DJ will actually be like on your wedding day.
Don’t Forget About Wedding Ceremony Sound
Couples often focus on the DJ for the reception, but ceremony sound matters just as much. Your DJ may provide speakers, microphones, processional music, recessional music, and audio support for your officiant.
Even with live musicians, you may still need amplification.
As Javier points out in our conversation, a string quartet can handle the music, but that doesn't necessarily mean 150 guests will be able to hear the officiant or your vows. Before the wedding, make sure you know who is responsible for the officiant's microphone, speakers, music cues, and audio for anyone else speaking during the ceremony.
These are small details that can make a big difference in your guests' experience.

Your DJ and officiant should have an opportunity to coordinate before the ceremony begins. This lets us check microphones, confirm music cues, and ensure the sound system is ready before your guests wait for the processional.
As an officiant, I prefer the DJ's ceremony setup to be completed well before the scheduled start. It gives us time for a sound check and helps avoid last-minute surprises. This is one benefit of hiring wedding professionals who know how to work as a team.

Planning an Outdoor Arizona Wedding? Consider the Heat
Arizona weather creates some unique challenges for outdoor weddings. Extreme heat can affect your guests and wedding party, as well as laptops, speakers, and other electronic equipment.
Javier explains that DJ equipment can become extremely hot in direct sunlight. Having a shaded area for the DJ setup is important, especially during warmer months. And remember that the sun moves. A location that is shaded during setup may be in direct sunlight by the time your ceremony begins.
If you're planning an outdoor Arizona wedding, talk with your venue and vendors about shade, equipment placement, water, guest comfort, and timing. Local wedding professionals can often identify these issues before they become wedding-day problems.
